Basic functions of kidney

According to Vander, the 7 major functions of kidneys are:
- Regulation of water and electrolyte
- Excretion of metabolic waste
- Excretion of bioactive substances
- Regulation of arterial blood pressure
- Regulation of RBC production
* Erythropoietin
- Regulation of vitamin D production
- Gluconeogenesis
* Most occur in liver
* But substantial amount occur in kidney especially after prolonged fasting
