Normal vaginal flora

Pathogenesis/Transmission

 

Clinical significance

Causes cystitis in women
-> coagulase negative staph in urine sample is presumed s. saprophyticus

Laboratory identification

Naturally resistent to novobiocin (distinguishes from other staph)

White, non-hemolytic colonies

Treatment

Sensitive to most antibiotics including penicillin G

Prevention/immunity

No vaccine

No lasting immunity
